Behind the Camera (and Stage) with Eliza Fennell: On Movement, Style, and Self-Expression

Hey! For anyone who might not know you yet, can you give us a quick intro to who Eliza Fennell is and what you do?

My name is Eliza Fennell, but my friends call me Lize. I’m a 21-year-old creator and performer based in Sydney, blending my love for dance, travel, and storytelling through both movement and visual content. After spending the last couple of years performing and living abroad, I’ve become inspired by the way creativity connects people and cultures. That’s what I aim to share through my work — whether I’m on stage or behind the camera.

How did you first step into modelling and content creation — was it intentional or something that evolved naturally?

Content creation is something that evolved really naturally for me. I’ve always loved styling outfits and convincing friends and family to join my backyard photoshoots, long before I even knew what “content creation” was. It really took shape when my sister bought me my first film camera — a Minolta X-300. That gift opened up a new way for me to intentionally capture the world around me. For me, it’s always been about exploring creative ideas, having fun, and getting lost in the process.

You’re also a dancer. How did you first get into dancing?

I grew up in an athletic family, and from a really young age, I was begging to be enrolled in dance classes. I was obsessed with the costumes the other girls wore — probably fuelled by my absolute love of dressing up and putting on performances for anyone who’d watch. As I got older, that playful excitement evolved into a real passion. Dance brings me so much happiness and genuinely feels like something I couldn’t imagine my life without.

What does a typical day look like for Eliza Fennell (if there even is one)?

I think the fact that there isn’t really a “typical” day for me is what keeps life exciting. Some days are full of training, rehearsing, choreographing, and refining performance skills, while others are spent shooting content, travelling, or filling up my creative cup. Even though my routine shifts constantly, the things that ground me are creating, being in nature, and spending quality time with friends and family.

How would you describe your creative or personal style right now?

I’d say my personal and creative style shifts depending on where I’m living and what environment I’m surrounded by. It’s definitely a blend — part street style inspired by my love for dance and my time in places like Tokyo, and part coastal, shaped by the surfy, laid-back scenes I naturally gravitate toward. Both my creative and personal style ebb and flow with my lifestyle, the cities I’m in, and whatever is inspiring me at the moment.

What single piece of advice would you give to a creative who is reading this?

We’re all still figuring it out — and that’s okay. The more we connect, share ideas, and support each other, the more we grow together. Stay curious, stay kind, and keep creating for the love of it.
